Smartphone security enhanced by Trust Digital

Trust Digital has released Version 7.3 of its award-winning Smartphone Security software. Key enhancements in this release include Smartcard Login and Messaging Controls to meet the advanced security needs of the federal government and the financial services industry.

Smartphone security is an important extension of public and private sector security initiatives, requiring the same level of data protection placed on laptops, particularly as enterprise mobility expands to include open platform systems. However, smartphones represent a new challenge. These converged devices provide the same data functionality as laptops, but they are also relied upon for voice functionality, which must be unhampered by security measures.

To address the advanced security needs of federal agencies, mainly the DoD, and large financial service companies, Trust Digital's Messaging Control feature allows a supervisor to implement security policies on a variety of "open market" smartphones and PDAs. Functions such as text or multimedia messaging can be disabled for all incoming or outgoing messages. In addition to Messaging Control, Trust Digital's Version 7.3 includes Smartcard Login providing two-factor authentication via an integrated Bluetooth(R) card reader for simplified authentication. Like Messaging Control, Smartcard Login is a critical security feature and is required by all federal agencies.

Features of the new Smartphone Security Version 7.3 release include:

  • Smartcard Login (SCL): Provides two-factor authentication via an integrated Bluetooth card reader for simplified and enhanced user-to-device, device-to-network and device-to-application authentication.
  • Common Access Card (CAC) Reader: Supports integrated CAC reader for Windows Mobile(R) smartphones and PDAs via a secure Bluetooth connection with interface controls hidden from the user.
  • SMS/MMS Supervisor: Enforces supervision requirements on carrier-based text and multimedia messaging by policy-controlled blocking of all incoming and outgoing messages.
  • IP Communications Manager with On-Device Firewall: Supervises IP traffic to/from the smartphone for email, IM, and web browsing, and leverages existing enterprise content-filtering and supervision mechanisms in the datacenter.

Smartphone Security Version 7.3 from Trust Digital builds upon customer production experience to deliver an umbrella security management solution that simplifies the deployment of advanced security capabilities by seamlessly integrating with existing IT infrastructures -- including Microsoft Active Directory, email synchronization platforms, mobile device management solutions and antivirus products.

This release is the only SCL-enabled smartphone solution for mobile email available today that does not require sending email via a Network Operations Center. The new software release provides two-factor authentication of smartphone users enabling them to digitally sign and/or encrypt email messages. The policy-based software eliminates the risks associated with accidental or malicious data disclosure using FIPS 140-2 validated data-at-rest encryption (AES 128/196/256 and Triple DES) and smartphone resource controls. This on-device security software identifies smartphones as they access a network and requires the devices to authenticate, register and pass policy-based compliance verification before gaining network access to Microsoft(R) Exchange and other applications.

Smartphone Security Version 7.3 provides centralized management of devices, security policies, and applications, including over-the-air (OTA) software deployments and updates. Reporting capabilities provide a real-time and historical view of device compliance status and email sync activity. These reports furnish the IT staff with a facility for performance monitoring to meet regulatory requirements during IT audits.
