Rumour: More Google phone titbits
The Google phone (gPhone?) may remain as yet unconfirmed by the big G itself, but the rumour mill is cranking up.
Most of the information is reportedly coming from 'company insiders' at Google and HTC with these being the highlights. You can take these as the gospel truth, or amusing gossip.
- The Google phone will officially be named the gPhone.
- It will not be a direct competitor to the iPhone, instead it is aimed at the budget end of the market at around $100.
- It will be ad-supported.
- HTC will produce the first hardware, with Google currently evaluating over 20 different models.
- The OS will be Linux-based.
- gPhone won't be a hardware designation at all, instead it will actually be a software platform.
- In light of that, Samsung may also produce a handset for launch.
All very interesting, all very tenuous.
