Apple slashes iPhone cost
In his 'one more thing' moment, Apple CEO Steve Jobs cut the 4GB iPhone altogether and slashed the cost of the 8GB version to $399.
In what could either be interpreted as a moment of weakness, or a moment of marketing genius, Jobs said that he wanted to make the iPhone "even more affordable" for more people.
Sales of the 8GB version are apparently "off the roof", but this is a clear sign that the 4GB version is not performing as expected. This may have more to do with the early adopter syndrome than anything else with those willing to queue for hours to get an iPhone probably also willing to spend their life savings to get the one they want.
