RIM sues LG for trademark infringement

Research in Motion (RIM) has filed a lawsuit against LG, claiming that some of the manufacturer's handset names are confusingly, and deliberately, similar to those of the BlackBerry.

The Black Cherry and the Strawberry are the phones that have incurred RIM's wrath and we can see why they believe that LG's strategy was a considered one.

Verizon had asked RIM for permission to use the name, but the Canadian company said no. Verizon and LG decided to go for it anyway.

RIM are now asking for all LG phones bearing the terms 'Black', 'Pearl' or 'Berry' to be recalled and destroyed. A little extreme we feel. 

RIM has form in this game as filed a similar suit against Samsung over the BlackJack brand late last year which was eventually resolved with Samsung promising not to officially use the brand name.
