Inside an iPhone
Admit it! We all love to pull apart electronic devices and see what makes them tick. The trouble is with a smartphone, and particularly a $599 iPhone, that's a lot of warranty to invalidate.
Fortunately there are people out there with stronger stomachs (and wallets) than us who are prepared to pull their iPhones apart and post the results online for all to see.
The most considered and comprehensive destruction we've found yet is on Fixit.com, a Mac parts and repair provider. You can almost sense the excitement in each photo as a new component is uncovered and lovingly photographed.
One of the first surprises is that the SIM card is removable, but only by sticking a paper clip into a hole in the case and applying a little more force than you would expect. Of course, this wont do you any good unless your iPhone is unlocked from AT&T and we've seen no evidence of anyone managing that yet.
Fixit.com also had a little bit of trouble getting into the case, but once they did they took it apart in fine style.
The components inside come from a variety of sources - Samsung, British audio and bluetooth chips and a WiFi chip from US Marvell.
Remember - they do it so we don't have to.
