New Palm OS delay reported
A recent conference call by Ed Colligan, CEO of Palm, has indicated that its new operating system which is a Linux-based evolution of the existing Garnet OS, will not be available until 2008.
This is a turn-around by Colligan who previously had indicated a 2007 debut for the new OS. Palm will continue to manufacture smartphones running on both Garnet and Windows Mobile for the foreseeable future.
"We see Windows Mobile particularly playing more strongly in the enterprise, medium businesses, and internationally, and our Palm OS products being more consumer based," said Colligan.
Colligan also revealed that the company had new launches planned in 2007. This will be welcome news for investors and fans who will have been worried at Palm's lack of a strong response to the iPhone launch last week, with quotes implying a strategy based on iPhone failure rather than Palm success.
