Free as in OpenMoko
OpenMoko invites geeks worldwide to the smartphone world...
Two early versions of the new OpenMoko Neo 1973 have been released. The first, aimed at open source application developers, is priced at $300 and the second, aimed at hardcore hardware hackers, at $450.
The handset doesn't boast an attractive exterior, certainly no competition for its rivals in that department, but then that's not what it is about. The phone is based on the Linux OS, and is aimed at getting the open source community branching out into the smartphone world.
Consumer versions of the products are due to be released later this year, so watch this space...
